Meet Ms. Williams...

My name is Joe Renee Williams and I teach 4th -8 8th grade Self Contained students. I attended the Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, MS. I have been married for 19 years. I enjoy reading, watching movies, long drives, helping people, and relaxing on my patio.
I started teaching because I wanted to make my mother proud of me before she left this world. She wanted me to teach and help the type of children I loved as I was coming up. I have always been drawn to the special needs children that I encountered in my life. She was able to see me get my first certified teaching job in 2006 in Aberdeen, MS at the original Aberdeen Middle School before she transitioned in 2007. I was so appreciative of the Lord for letting me accomplish this goal in my life for her.
My teaching philosophy consists in having an individual approach to each and every learner and expecting the unexpected and adapt to changes. Working as a self-contained special education teacher, I understand better than anyone else the differences between students with various special needs. The same teaching method may do miracles for one student and absolutely nothing for another. That’s why I always try to approach each student individually, understanding their goals, abilities, and limitations, and adjusting my teaching accordingly. In this setting, it is great to have everything prepared upfront, knowing exactly what you want to say and do in a lesson, but I’ve learned by experience that more often than not it doesn’t work. We have some delays, children lose discipline, medications take longer than normal to kick in, or the students didn’t find the lesson interesting enough to hold their focus. Adaptation, communication, and rapport is the key, and I do my best to be ready for
all challenges we may face in the classroom.
