(ABERDEEN, Miss.) July 26, 2023 – One Aberdeen High School graduate is the recipient of an eminent scholarship award. Erica Alyssa McCoy is one of 10 graduating seniors from across the entire state to earn the 2023 Walter S. Bounds Scholarship for Excellence, valued at $1,000.
The scholarships are awarded by the Mississippi Association of School Superintendents and recognize students for their leadership skills, community service, and extracurricular involvement. Nearly 100 students applied for this unique honor, each having met strict academic requirements and gaining recommendations from their superintendents.
“Aberdeen School District prides itself on having the best and brightest students,” says Superintendent Andrea Pastchal-Smith. “Erica is a true testament to that fact, having stood out among dozens of Mississippi’s highest achievers. We are truly proud of her and all of the other winners.”
Erica McCoy was also recognized at Aberdeen School District’s July board meeting. She plans to attend the University of Mississippi in the fall.
