Aberdeen Parent University

The Aberdeen Parent University engagement program met for discussion and game night. Dr. Glenn began the meeting with an icebreaker. Participants had to choose a partner. One partner had to listen, and the other drew. A winner was chosen for the participants that had the exact or closest to the description, and a prize was awarded. Mrs. April Hazzle and Mrs. Latosha Williams were the winners of the icebreaker. This activity allowed participants to learn about themselves as well as their partners. After the activity ended, the participants realized they could have asked more questions to get a better understanding, and it was okay to talk during the activity to ensure the listener communicated the directions to the drawer. It was a fun activity and can be done at home as well.

Mrs. Hazzle gave a presentation on Active Parent and how to use it effectively. The presentation was great. Some parents didn’t know that they could email teachers directly through the app on their phones. Other parents didn’t know that Active Parent can also be checked on their work and home computers. Active Parent is a great resource to not only look at your students' grades but attendance and conduct as well.

The meeting ended with fun games of bingo. When it was time for bingo all seriousness entered the room. The participants were focused and zoned in as Dr. Glenn called out each number with excitement. Our administrators were so excited to participate. The game was fun and after a long day, it was just what everyone needed, a time to laugh and relax. Dr. Smith our Superintendent was in attendance and enjoyed participating in the games. Bingo winners were Ms. Fair AHS Principal, Kayleigh Jackson 1st grade student, Curtice  Williams proud parent of Kayleigh Jackson and Kendall Williams sixth grade, and Sheila Harris. Mrs. Latosha Williams is shown presenting the prizes.  Every activity covered tonight including the games can be done at home as well. We encourage great attendance and great grades, we also encourage that you play just as hard as you work. We are excited to see you all at the next APU!
