ASD Homecoming 2023

Every fall, ASD has homecoming festivities. This year was different, and the best yet in my opinion. As the dawgs took on the Senatobia Wolverines, behind them were hundreds if not a thousand alumni throwing the biggest party ASD has experienced. There were a ton of activities that took place during the week leading up to the game. We have referenced it as Homecoming week, those activities were just as fun as the game itself.

By Friday, after successfully juggling schoolwork, extracurricular activities, and events for five days straight, we got to reward ourselves with a surge of Homecoming weekend festivities. Thursday is marked by the Homecoming parade, followed by a Pep Rally on Friday, wrapped up with the biggest tailgate party in the middle of the Aberdeen High School campus. And then after all of that, you still have Saturday to look forward to.

Homecoming Day has tons of significant events, including parties, BBQs, and not to mention the actual football game. It’s even crazier than the rest of the week because alumni of all ages flood back into Aberdeen to revisit campus, watch the game, and catch up with old friends. On top of all that, the day usually ends with parties all over the city. While it is exhausting to partake in as it probably just was for you to read about, the fact that Homecoming is one of the most fun weeks of the school year and one of my favorite ASD traditions. It truly celebrates every element of our district in one single event. It incorporates current students, alumni, staff, and of course, athletics, and in doing so, it captures the ASD experience. I’m always saddened when Homecoming Week comes to an end, but I am comforted by the fact that I know next year will be even bigger, and Alumni and fans will be coming back for years to come.
