As we enter state testing season, families across the Aberdeen School District are focused on helping their children do their very best on the Mississippi Academic Assessment Program (MAAP). These assessments are an important measure of student learning and help us understand how well our students are mastering grade-level standards.
While our teachers have been working hard to ensure students are prepared academically, parents and guardians play a powerful role at home in setting the tone for success. Here are a few simple, time-tested ways to support your child during this important time:
ποΈ 1. Prioritize Sleep
A well-rested brain is a thinking brain. Make sure your child is getting at least 8β10 hours of sleep each night, especially the night before each test. Set a calm evening routine and keep bedtime consistent.
π³ 2. Eat a Healthy Breakfast
A nutritious breakfast fuels focus and energy. Encourage your child to eat something with protein and whole grainsβwhether at home or through the school breakfast program.
β° 3. Arrive on Time and Ready
Being on time and calm at the start of the day helps reduce test anxiety. Rushing can lead to stress, so give your child a few extra minutes in the morning to feel settled.
π 4. Be PresentβAttendance Matters
Every day counts, especially during testing season. Missing even one testing day can disrupt your childβs rhythm and momentum. If your child is feeling well, please ensure they are present and on time for school. Good attendance helps them stay connected, focused, and confident in their testing routine.
π¬ 5. Stay Positive
Your words matter. Offer encouragement like:
βJust do your best. Thatβs all anyone can ask.β
βYouβve worked hardβyouβve got this!β
Reassure your child that the test is just one way to show what theyβve learned.
π 6. Encourage Reading and Review
You donβt need to teach the test, but encouraging daily reading and talking about what your child is learning in class keeps skills sharp. Help them take ownership of their learning and be proud of what they know.
πΎ We're In This Together
In the Aberdeen School District, we believe in the power of teamwork between school and home. Our goal isnβt just test successβitβs building confident, capable students who are ready for whatever comes next.
Letβs continue working together to help our students finish strong. MAAP success is within reachβbecause our students are prepared, focused, and supported every step of the way.
Thank you, parents and guardians, for your continued support. If you have any questions, please contact your childβs school directly.
Go Dawgs!
